Description The senior associate role in the Finance Core team will support the Finance Core team lead and the associates in the team. The successful candidate will be part of a team providing responsive support to key Finance activities where either there is urgent unanticipated demand for resource or where there is a shortage of capacity. The role therefore requires an individual able to operate flexibly across a variety of Finance disciplines, equipped and motivated to engage in the full range of activities performed by an Investment Bank’s Finance function.
This role requires someone with a background in process improvement and documentation. Experience in process mapping & writing standard Operating procedures is also essential. The candidate should also have a sound knowledge of Microsoft Office packages – Advanced Excel & Visio, Intermediate PowerPoint, Outlook and Word. This is a varied and challenging role in which the individual will gain significant exposure to a variety of projects in Finance during the initial stages of their career with UBS
It is expected that candidates will be exposed / educated in our firm’s “six sigma” / “lean” process documentation methodology. This will ensure that processes in Singapore, HK, Tokyo & Sydney are documented in a consistent manner that would aid in comparing processes.
Key Objectives -
Client: • Develop effective working relationships with functional line managers /colleagues within the firm and key global contacts • Responsiveness to requests from Finance user community
People: • Works efficiently and harmoniously within the Finance Core team demonstrating at all times mutual respect & professionalism. • Provide regular feedback to the Finance Core team Lead • Keep colleagues informed of developments; work collaboratively. • Escalate any issues to Finance Core team lead as they arise
Economic: • Identify problems and notify management in a timely fashion • Mitigate transition risk through ensuring accurate detailed documentation of processes
Functional/Technical: • Contribute to accuracy and integrity of data. • Understanding of the front-to-back process flow • Experienced in process mapping & writing standard operating procedures • Experienced in detailed process documentation • .Have ability to multi task and turn ones hand to a variety of issues. • Maintain the professional, ethical and legal standards required in FCD • Attention to detail and high standards of data and systems integrity. • Follow international codes of practice and controls • Understanding of the generic front to back processes • Experience in process mapping & detailed process documentation • Good organisational skills with disciplined and structured approach to work • Prioritisation and organisational skills • Ability to move between different tasks in the group. Requirements Professional Qualifications Essential: Graduate – Honours degree –Finance/ Accounting related discipline Desirable: MBA, MSc, Chartered Accountancy (either ICAEW or CACA).
Experience: 1 to 4 years experience in a Finance role The candidate would be expected to have previous exposure to P&L, Balance sheet, Financial Close, Business Process Analysis (BPA), SoX, International Accounting Policies & Generally Accepted Accounting Policies
Technical Capability: Strong Technical skills are desirable and a real interest/understanding of applications and databases. Being at ease with new applications & systems is important. Also requires: • Good working knowledge of excel and MS Access • Desire to improve on technical knowledge and abilities
Analytical Capability: An inquisitive analytical mind is also required with excellent attention to detail and the ability to identify unique “one off” issues that have never been identified before, where there are no documented answers that need resolving. Strong problem solving skills are therefore a requirement.
Interpersonal and Communication skills: Significant daily interaction with onshore Finance staff will be required and so excellent interpersonal & communication skills are a pre–requisite.
